Warehouse assistant

Acting as the link between food donations coming in and reaching those in crisis, you’ll support the smooth running of Greenwich Foodbank. You’ll be part of a team of volunteers sorting and packing food and additional items in the warehouse. You’ll be organised and have an eye for detail; this includes checking, weighing and recording stock and sorting food by date and type. This is a physical role, as you’ll be on your feet a lot, and you must be comfortable with some heavy lifting and maintaining a clean and safe warehouse.

Volunteer drivers.

You’ll play an essential role in promptly transporting food from collection points to the warehouse for sorting and finally onto the local food bank, which will help to make a real difference in your community. A confident and safe driver, you’ll enjoy being part of a team and be physically strong to lift and load food crates. Your flexible and committed approach will help to maximise donations and improve the efficiency of the food bank.
This role has two shifts: morning (10am-2pm) or afternoon (1pm – 4pm)

Driver buddies

We are looking for four buddies who can volunteer for 2-3 hours between Tuesday – Friday from 9.30 am – 3.30 pm. You will be Assisting our van drivers on their scheduled routes in collecting, transporting, and delivering heavy items such as Supermarket cages. You would also be able to provide cover when the van driver is absent ie on holiday.

Storeroom volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to help in the storeroom at the Foodbank. Your help will be needed to pack parcels of food which will be distributed to clients. You can volunteer any day between Monday to Thursday from 1 pm to 3 pm. Your main tasks will include packing bags of food, replenishing shelves with stock, and monitoring stock levels. The skills required for this role include good communication and reading abilities.

Safeguarding lead

his vital role involves ensuring Safeguarding is effectively dealt with at your food bank both from a day-to-day perspective and when a matter may need to be reported to a Statutory Agency. It also includes ensuring safeguarding training is delivered to staff and volunteers using external resources and ensuring policies and procedures are in place at all food bank locations. If any safeguarding is contracted to a third party (such as a church where a centre is based), liaising with the safeguarding team at that location will be required.

This role operates flexibly around volunteers’ availability.

Data Protection Lead

As the food bank Data Protection Lead, you will be monitoring and improving how we handle data, ensuring we are following all the current guidelines to keep data safe and accessible only to those who require it. Your support will make a real impact within the community, ensuring families and individuals facing the genuine issue of food poverty are not alone and receive the help they need.

Volunteers can work flexibly and remotely as per their availability.

Volunteer Cleaner

We are looking for a friendly volunteer who can complete some Cleaner to take care of our facilities and do light cleaning. The goal is to keep our building safe, clean and orderly.

Welcome Centre Leader

As a food bank centre team leader, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of the food bank centre, supporting volunteers, coordinating activities and being the main point of contact for queries for the duration of the session.

Social Media and Communications Volunteer

As a food bank, we are part of a growing movement that is taking action to create a fair and compassionate society and deliver our vision for the UK without the need for food banks. Through our social media platforms, we aim to gain support for our activity as a food bank and raise awareness in our local community of the drivers pushing people into poverty to inspire local people to take action. We are looking for a Social Media and Communications volunteer to help oversee and drive this critical activity forward and enable us to elevate the voice of food bank staff, volunteers, and those with first-hand experience of hardship.

I.T support volunteer

To provide ongoing ad hoc technical support and guidance to the Foodbank Coordinator.

  • researching, evaluating and recommending any new systems and equipment that will further enhance the Foodbank’s technical efficiency;
  • installing and configuring new hardware, software and applications

Volunteer Coordinator

As a volunteer coordinator, you will play a vital role in our food bank, ensuring that we meet the demand for our services and provide help and support to people in crisis in the local community.
