Acting as the link between food donations coming in and reaching those in crisis, you’ll support the smooth running of Greenwich Foodbank. You’ll be part of a team of volunteers sorting and packing food and additional items in the warehouse. You’ll be organised and have an eye for detail; this includes checking, weighing and recording stock and sorting food by date and type. This is a physical role, as you’ll be on your feet a lot, and you must be comfortable with some heavy lifting and maintaining a clean and safe warehouse.
You’ll play an essential role in promptly transporting food from collection points to the warehouse for sorting and finally onto the local food bank, which will help to make a real difference in your community. A confident and safe driver, you’ll enjoy being part of a team and be physically strong to lift and load food crates. Your flexible and committed approach will help to maximise donations and improve the efficiency of the food bank.
This role has two shifts: morning (10am-2pm) or afternoon (1pm – 4pm)
We are looking for four buddies who can volunteer for 2-3 hours between Tuesday – Friday from 9.30 am – 3.30 pm. You will be Assisting our van drivers on their scheduled routes in collecting, transporting, and delivering heavy items such as Supermarket cages. You would also be able to provide cover when the van driver is absent ie on holiday.
We are looking for volunteers to help in the storeroom at the Foodbank. Your help will be needed to pack parcels of food which will be distributed to clients. You can volunteer any day between Monday to Thursday from 1 pm to 3 pm. Your main tasks will include packing bags of food, replenishing shelves with stock, and monitoring stock levels. The skills required for this role include good communication and reading abilities.
This vital role involves ensuring Safeguarding is effectively dealt with at your food bank both from a day-to-day perspective and when a matter may need to be reported to a Statutory Agency. It also includes ensuring safeguarding training is delivered to staff and volunteers using external resources and ensuring policies and procedures are in place at all food bank locations. If any safeguarding is contracted to a third party (such as a church where a centre is based), liaising with the safeguarding team at that location will be required.
This role operates flexibly around volunteers’ availability.
