About
A letter to our Volunteers
To all our volunteers and those who support us
The Greenwich Foodbank accounts for the 18 month period ending 31st March 2025 were uploaded to the Charity Commission (CC) on the 27th March 2026. These were submitted ahead of the Companies House deadline of the 31st March 2026. As you’ll see in our accounts, linked here, our charity experienced fraudulent payments. We had to appoint new accountants to thoroughly review and assure ourselves that the accounts were a true and accurate picture of the accounting period in question.
We encourage all our volunteers and supporters to read the accounts and of course, if you have any questions or feedback, please contact our staff team.
In particular, we would like to encourage our volunteers to submit any questions to our Board of Trustees and staff team, ahead of our upcoming Volunteer Forum on Monday 13th April.
Our forum is for current volunteers, only. If you are an existing Greenwich Foodbank volunteer who hasn’t yet received an invitation to our Volunteer Forum, please write to Emma by emailing [email protected].
We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to the Volunteer Forum. For those not able to join, please still submit your questions to Emma. We will compile a summary of all questions and the answers for all our volunteers after the event.
We also welcome the CC regulatory compliance case, which we learnt about yesterday afternoon. This follows our own notification to the CC and Police upon discovering the fraud last year, and our various subsequent updates to them as we achieved the return of the fraudulent payments, in full, from the bank. We look forward to working with and supporting the CC with their case review which will focus on the finalised accounts, including the Independent Examiner’s report which is part of the accounts and the Trustees’ wider governance of the charity.
The CC have confirmed that their case review is not a finding of wrongdoing. They have made no findings at this time and they are not a criminal investigator. Any allegations of criminality would be for the Police. The CC will let our Board of Trustees know, in due course, their progress. We have no further information about their timeline, but will continue to keep our volunteers and all interested parties informed.
The staff team continue to focus on those we exist to serve which in February were;
~ 605 vouchers fulfilled supporting 520 households
~ 1,489 people fed and supported of which 560 were children
~ with the top reason for referrals being the ‘rising cost of essentials’.
Our staff team are also working on our first Annual Impact Report, which will be shared later in the spring.
Thank you to all our dedicated and selfless volunteers and supporters. We remain focussed on our mission.
